Earlier this week, the People’s Alliance for Right to Land (PARL) wrote to the President and Minister of agriculture, land, livestock, irrigation, and fisheries expressing our deep concern regarding the recent comments made by the Land commissioner general on the continuation of the “Urumaya” program.
In the letter, we highlighted that the “Urumaya” program, introduced by the former President, was not aimed at securing land tenure rights for the people but rather served as a strategy to release land to the open market, enabling exploitation by various companies and their projects.
The complete letter, along with attachments, is available here in Sinhala.
