The virtual public launch of the website and People’s Land Commission Report of The People’s Alliance for Right to Land (PARL) will be held online today the 10th of August from 10am to 12pm. ( Please join via this link)
The People's Land Commission was an initiative by PARL to hear and document the aspirations of marginalized communities from diverse backgrounds whose rights to land, housing, and livelihood have been systematically violated due to unlawful evictions, arbitrary and unfair land policies, and discriminatory practices in Sri Lanka. The report is a result of a wide consultative process, having heard from more than 800 women and men, across 18 districts in Sri Lanka.
This event is organized to share the outcome of the People’s Commission and create public discourse on the recommendations presented by the communities, for an inclusive and environmentally sustainable solution to long-standing grievances. Commissioners of the People’s Land Commission and community members will share their experiences, expectations, and findings from the Commission Report.
The updated website you are currently browsing through includes an online database mapping land right violations around the island. We hope that this database will serve as a resource hub for policymakers, activists and organizations focused on land and housing rights issues in Sri Lanka.
The event will be moderated in Tamil and Sinhala with simultaneous interpretation available.
